ABOUT KHULA YOUTH EMPOWERMENT ORGANIZATION
Khula Youth Empowerment Organisation was founded in the year 2002 by youth activist and other community members from KwaMashu Township and surrounding areas of eThekwini Municipality. The necessity of establishment of Khula Youth Empowerment Organisation was some means of contributing to the community needs in respond to areas of HIV/Aids education, youth and women unemployment, skills development, crime and poverty. The other challenges that the organisation seeks to address was mainly to support and address difficulties faced by needy and disadvantaged families, child headed families, orphans, vulnerable children and Gender-based violence survivors. The organisation is currently having its head offices in Durban Central and provides its services all around the province of KwaZulu-Natal through its satellite’s offices.
The organisation is not only focussing on youth, women and children but it serves as an interlink between the community and the government to address issues of government services such as health issues, accessing support grants and other social services. When we were profiling our areas that we serve in general, we noticed that there is lack of caring for youth services, children’s, orphan’s and gender-based violence services. The HIV/Aids pandemic, GBVF, substance abuse has resulted in a lot of victims /survivors, needing psychosocial support including counselling services.
